Getting on in Statistics

The Getting on in Statistics day aimed to highlight career and development opportunities for young statisticians.  The "Getting on in Statistics" Day was organised by the Royal Statistical Society's Young Statisticians Section on the 25th June 2010 and was intended for anyone with less than 10 years experience.

The morning covered two parallel sessions, one on Medical Statistics and the other on Manufacturing & Quality Control. Lunch then provided the opportunity to speak to people from different companies and backgrounds who were still either studying or at a similar stage in their career. The afternoon began with a choice of a session on Risk or a session on Financial Statistics.  The Risk session started off with an introduction to football modelling. The last of the parallel sessions were Government Statistics and Actuarial Statistics. The final session gave insight into how to apply to be a Chartered Statistician with the RSS.
