  • Fall Concert: Heritage and Hits Heritage and HitsRemsen St Mary’s Students perform fall concertStudents in 5th-12th grade instrumental and vocal music put on a wonderful performance last Wednesday, October 18th in the Sue Trinen Memorial Gym. Overall the students prepared 30 selections which included jazz, american folk songs, polka, pop songs selected by the students and songs about peace. The new ensemble “Hawks in Harmony” debuted at the concert. The ensemble includes the high school choir and select students in 5th-8th grade. The students put in a lot of work to prepare their songs and they had a fun time performing for their families and the St. Mary’s Community. The concert opened with members in the 7th/8th grade ...

  • Winter Band Wonderland Over the past couple months, students in the middle school and high school band have been busy preparing for honor bands and contests. When they aren’t working hard on those, they are all also challenging themselves with the scales olympics and creating their own short compositions. Several students participated in the Sioux City Diocese JH/HS honor band as well as a handful of students performing at the BVU Solo/Ensemble contest.On January 18th, ten students traveled to Storm Lake to participate in the CYO junior high and high school honor band. High school students selected include: Catherine Russell, Mallory Behrens, Haley Delperdang, Wyatt Staab, Robert Russell, Miranda Ball, and Emma Galles. They enjoyed learning some new selections ...

  • MS/JH Competes at Large Group Students in the 6th grade, and 7th/8th grade band participated in the MVAO Middle School Large Group band contest on Saturday, April 23rd in Anthon Iowa. The ensemble gave a solid and balanced performance, and although the group was small, they put out a lot of sound and impressed the judges and audience. The group is still young and developing however this expeinces give the students a great oiportunity to learn about their stranghts and their areas of improv ement. It is also a great way for students to prepare for a contest similar to what they will participate in for high school band.
