Club History

Although the Rotary Club of Samford Valley was chartered on the 8th October 1980, the first documented meeting as the "Provisional Rotary Club of Samford Valley" was held on the 1st September 1980 at the Samford Bowls Club. Office bearers of the proposed club were elected on the 25th August 1980 at the last of several 'unofficial' meetings held at the Samford Valley Farmers Hall.

Our 'mother' club was the Rotary Club of Michelton.

"We would like to officially record our thanks to Rotarians Don Hay, Past President Bruce Dick, Past President Brian Hanley, Past District Governor Cec. Walton, and particularly to Past President Lawrence Burnett for their time and untiring efforts in getting us started and also to our Immediate Past District Governor Ben Bennett, under whose directions and interest we first started the survey of a possible local club, and now to our present District Governor Bill Upton." - Extracted from Volume 1, Number 1 of the Bulletin of the Rotary Club of Samford Valley.
