Gloria WyattThe August MGS meeting proved to be another great session, with Gloria Wyatt presenting the program entitled “The Life and Writings of Mobile’s Famed Author – Augusta Evans Wilson – During the Time of the War Between the States.” Gloria wore a beautiful handmade period costume from that era. We learned so much about Augusta, a great philanthropic and gifted lady.

It has become necessary to cancel our Mini-Seminar scheduled for October 13, 2012. We have, however, been able to schedule a seminar on November 10th with George Shorter, an archaeologist with the Center for Archaeological Studies at the University of South Alabama for the past 20 years, will speak on the topic “Artifacts: How Archaeologists Assign Meaning.” For the past fifteen years, George has worked at the early 19th Century town of St. Stephens, near present-day Jackson, Alabama. See page three of our September newsletter for more information about the November seminar and a registration form. If you have prepaid for the October seminar, we can transfer the payment to the November seminar or you can request a refund at the September meeting.
