For the past year, we have looked forward to our 50th Anniversary Celebration which will be held at the February 11th General Membership Meeting. Like any great event, we will reflect on the past, savor the present and look forward to the future. We will remember those first officers who drew up our Constitution and By-Laws, thereby laying the foundation upon which to build our society.

The Mobile Genealogical Society, Inc. was founded February 13, 1962 and incorporated on November 19, 1962. Membership was $5.00 per year.

A few of our goals for this year include increasing our membership, upgrading our website, providing more genealogical workshops and publishing more of Mobile’s wealth of genealogical information, as well as that from counties along the Gulf Coast states. We encourage more of our members to become active in obtaining records for publication in the Quarterly or for books.

On behalf of the Society, I want to thank Ken Day, Director and Chairman of the 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign for achieving success and beyond that of our goal of $5,000. He has done an outstanding job! Additionally, I want to thank each contributor who made a donation to any one of the three levels – Diamond, Platinum or Gold.

The Honorable Judge Don Davis, Probate Judge of Mobile County, will be our keynote speaker. And energetic, ninety-two-year-old Lib Dodd, one of our charter members, plans on attending. The Hospitality Committee asks that you come and enjoy the birthday celebration, but PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY FOOD OR DRINK. This has been taken care of by generous members. Doris Bush will be our hostess in the absence of Betty Suiter, who is involved in Mardi Gras. Happy 50th to All!

Mary Ann Ingram, President
