Please check your child's planner each night for specific homework assignments. Initial at the bottom of each night. 

Upcoming Events:

Report Card Conferences are the week of November 6th.  Inside your child's work envelope this week is a paper for you to complete by selecting a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice time slot preference for your 15 minute conference.  Please complete the form and return it Tuesday so that I may begin scheduling conferences.  Please note the minimum day schedule on November 6, 8, and 9.

Great Shake Out Earthquake Drill is Thursday, October 19 at 10:45.

We are starting our art rotation with an art instructor on October 27th!! This will continue until December 15th.  Art instruction will be on Fridays, from 11:30-12:15.

Halloween Parade-Tuesday, October 31
at 8:15.  Our simple brunch will be immediately following the parade in the small pavilion, weather providing.

Language Arts: Unit 2

2nd Grade: Module 3-Place Value, Counting, and Comparison of Numbers to 1,000.
Please have your child make flash cards of addition and subtraction facts to 20 and practice them daily.  Log into the Zearn site for additional math practice.


3rd Grade: Module 3-Place Value and Problem Solving with Units of Measure. Log into Zearn for daily additional practice. All students have been moved to Module 2 in order for them to have additional practice on each lesson as part of their daily homework.

The students will write  flash cards for the 5's times tables facts.  Their cards need to be in their homework folders and travel to school and home everyday for flashcard drills.  There will be a timed multiplication quiz Monday on the 5's facts. Students will have 2 minutes to correctly complete 30 facts! 

Math homework for 2nd and 3rd grade is in a spiral bound book and will travel from school to home daily.  The book needs to be returned everyday!

Social Studies: 
Our American symbols "blended learning" projects are completed! What a great first computer project. 

Coming up:  Families and Communities

 Properties of Matter- We have learned about properties of materials and why some materials work well for certain activities.  We have also learned about "conducting" and "insulating" properties.  This week we explored phases of matter and determined why so many toys are made of plastic. Plastic has the property of being "meltable" and can take the shape of its container.
 Health and Nutrition-We will be learning about the food groups and the important nutrients in each group.  We will also explore healthy eating habits.

ComputerWise Kids can be accessed at home for keyboard practice.  Information will be sent home with specific instructions to access this program.  Keyboarding is an important skill for all students.  Please encourage your child to practice at home.

ZEARN is a supplemental math program that is closely aligned to the Eureka math program.  I sent home a letter with your child's log in information with the Back to School information. Here are the class codes to get started:

Students can access the Scholastic News website to read the edition at home that we are reading in class by using the following website:

Find the issue we are reading.

Homework: Independent reading is required for 15-20 minutes each night. Homework that involves reading counts toward the minutes.

The next deadline for 3rd grade students is November 1. Reading is part of nightly homework and 4 new points are required by each monthly deadline.

Please have your child practice keyboarding on Typing Tutor every week, at least 2 lessons a week.  
*The activation code to place Scholastic book orders online is DXPV3.  Next order due date will be October 31. You can view upcoming flyers on the Scholastic site or wait for the new flyers to be sent home when I receive them.  Thank you!

Square dance is every other week.  On the weeks we dance, kids will skip PE.
