Welcome to Room 33!

Please check your child's planner each night for specific homework assignments. Initial at the bottom of each page every night. Please review your child's homework for neatness and accuracy. 

Upcoming Events/Important Dates : I hope this week brings a sense of peace and calmness to all those affected by the fires.  I hope you are all safe. We will be writing letters to the First Responders this week to thank them for all they do.

2nd Grade: Module 3-Place Value, Counting, and Comparison of Numbers to 1,000
Please have your child make flash cards of addition and subtraction facts to 20 and practice them daily.  Log into the Zearn site for additional math practice of the daily lessons.


3rd Grade: Module 2-Place Value and Problem Solving with Units of Measure. The Homework Helpers for this module were sent home for you to refer to. 7's test this Friday.

Please send in head phones for your child if you have not already done so, so Zearn can be completed in class as well as at home.

Math homework for 2nd and 3rd grade is in a spiral bound book and will travel from school to home daily.  The book needs to be returned everyday!

Social Studies:
For the next two weeks, we will read a core literature book entitled "Molly's Pilgrim."  The story is about  a family that moved to this country from Russia.  Molly, the young girl, has a difficult time adjusting to her new environment.  The story focuses on tolerance, kindness, and respect for each other.  There will be follow up activities when we finish the story.
Science: Properties of Matter
The students have worked collaboratively to create an invention using a new material, stretchy and bouncy glass.  Their presentations to me and the rest of the class will continue over the next two weeks.  I am so proud of their work and their ability to work collaboratively.

Coming up: Animal research/project
 Nutrition-We have started our nutrition unit.  The children will become familiar with the different food groups, the main nutrients from each group, and the importance of eating balanced meals.

AR tests will be taken at school.  

ComputerWise Kids can be accessed at home for keyboard practice.  Information was sent home with specific instructions to access this program.  Or, you can access Computer Wise Kids from the Welby Way Website. Click the Technology tab and click the portal log in. Keyboarding is an important skill for all students.  Please encourage your child to practice at home at least 5 minutes a night. Your child can practice skills on www.typing.com in addition to typing tutor.

ZEARN is a supplemental math program that is closely aligned to the Eureka math program.  I will send home your child's log in information at Back to School Night. Here are the class codes to get started after you receive the log in information:

Once we begin using Scholastic News, students can access the Scholastic News website to read the edition at home that we will read in class by using the following website:

Click on "All Issues"
Find the issue we are reading.

Homework: Independent reading is required for 15-20 minutes each night. Homework that involves reading counts toward the minutes. 

Bring in a silent reading book from home at your reading level!

Please have your child practice keyboarding on Typing Tutor every week, at least 2 lessons a week.

Square dance is every other week.  On the weeks we dance, kids will skip PE.  Third grade will participate in square dance in the next few weeks.  The schedule is tentatively set for Friday afternoon for third grade.
