Mostyn Coaches

Ronald Frederick Astbury,

Mostyn Garage, Coast Road, Glan-y-don, Mostyn

Ronald Astbury's took over from his father Frank Edward Astbury running a garage on the Coast Road in Glan-y-don, Mostyn near Holywell. The garage traded as Mostyn Garage and was involved in fuel and car sales as well as car repairs. In about 1958 Ronald Astbury extended the business by purchasing a new 12 seater VW minibus which he started to use mainly for private hire. This becane the business known as Mostyn Coaches.

Further coaches and buses were added to the fleet over a period of time.

A regular job undertaken for a period was conveying Everton supporters to the football matches in Liverpool. In addition to conveying supporters Roy Vernon the acclaimed Welsh International and Everton player was also conveyed to the match by coach. Other work undertaken included supplying a coach to Yelloway to assist them operating their seasonal service of Rochdale to Rhyl express service. Certain tours were also operated including an evening mystery tour.

An unusual occurrence in the firms history was that a coach was stolen and was later discovered to have been used in a robbery in Greenfield. Some of the proceeds of the robbery were later found in the coach.

The passenger conveyance business ceased in about 1993 and the last vehicle owned a Bedford YMT / Plaxton Supreme was sold to Voel Coaches in Dyserth. Shortly afterwards Ronald Astbury sold the garage business and retired to enjoy his passion of gardening.
