BACKGROUND HISTORY

Robert Daniel Evans started his business in 1919 by operating a taxi service from Wrexham to Rhosllanerchrugog. However due to the competition on this route he transferred his activities to the north of Wrexham and operated a service to Acton and Rhosnesni.

The first bus was purchased in about 1930 and the second bus was purchased new in 1933. However shortly after delivery Robert died at the age of 49 and the business transferred to his wife Martha Ann Evans. Their son Arthur soon joined the business and the business then traded as M A Evans and Son. While Arthur served in the army during the war the business was run by his mother and his sister although half of the fleet of four vehicles were requisitioned during the hostilities.

After the war some new buses were purchased and the work continued operating the original services but private hire was also undertaken with a major customer being the teacher training college that had opened in the area.

The business became very much a family run with Arthur’s wife and both his daughters working on the buses. In 1985 the routes and some six remaining buses were sold to E Jones and Sons, Rhosllanerchrugog.

Aware of the sale Crosville applied for licences to run the routes. A formal objection was lodged by Arthur Evans and a campaign was launched to support E Jones and Sons takeover of the routes. This was successful and Crosville eventually withdrew from the route.

Arthur Evans died in January 2010 at the age of 92.

HISTORIC FLEET LIST
The table below gives a list of all recorded vehicles known to have been with this operator.  I am indebted to David Donati for his dedicated work in compiling this data and enabling me to present it.

In the right hand column - where available - there is a link to a photograph of the vehicle.  The photo will open in a new window. Links in capital letters suggest the vehcile is seen when with the operator.

The column 'Pre HISTORY' shows information about the vehicle before joining the fleet including any re-registrations.  The column 'Post HISTORY' shows information about when the vehicle left the fleet and any known information of the subsequent history after the vehicle left the fleet.

For those who would wish to see the chassis and body numbers - these are to be found by clicking the tab at the bottom of the table.

Any suggested corrections or comments would be very welcome - please contact me using the 'how to contact me page'
