Completed speakers

The photos above show a pair of my earlier 3-way speakers in various stages of construction. The drivers are all 8Ω and the boxes are made from ordinary 20mm thick plywood. I reconed the woofers (which were 4Ω) to use 8Ω voice coils - these are taller than their 4Ω versions for the same diameter, and perhaps have better power handling and Xmax. The woofer has a volume of about 68 litres behind it and after taking their T/S parameters, WinISD shows a sealed response that extends to 42Hz (-3dB) with a 1.5dB peak at about 70Hz. I had considered applying Linkwitz transform to it, but after a few listening sessions decided against it. The overall SPL and sound quality is quite impressive - it hardly needs the volume control to be beyond the 12 O' clock position to achieve ear-splitting levels.
