Details
Night running off-road is an exciting experience and one not to be missed. These Night Race events will:
be roughly 5 or 6 miles long
have 'chip timing'
be fully marked with over 500 specially made reflective signs and flashing arrows.
have toilets and catering facilities
have a running ‘sweeper’ and marshals in key places on the route with radios to keep in contact with base
have First Aid Cover
be fully Permitted and insured through the ARC.
At each event snacks and drinks will be included. Our chip timing system allows us to produce 'live results' so you'll be able to see your time, category position and where you come relative your friends as soon as you finish. There will be a prize presentation not long after the last runner finishes.
There will be trophies for 1st Man and Lady and prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Man and Lady and also in the age categories: Sen, V40, V45, V50, V55, V60, V65, V70+ (only one prize per person).
Clothing/Kit
For these events, a head-torch is clearly an essential item. Modern LED lights will provide all the light you'll need to run fast over difficult terrain. Getting a powerful light is the best way to boost your confidence and performance.
We strongly advise you to wear 'fell shoes' on these events. Innov8's, Walshes or similar shoes with an aggressive tread and shallow mid-sole. You wear road shoes at your peril.
It's a very good idea to bring a hat, gloves and a windproof to these races. At night and in these months it can be below freezing. If you suffer back-up light failure, it’s a cold wait, and a slow jog back with the ‘Sweepers’.
This is what people have said about our night races: “That’s the best race I have ever done. “ “Great race, proper trails, lots of fun“. “Fantastic. Thanks”. “Great course, very well organised and nice chips!!” “Congratulations on an awesome race last night, really well organised and thoroughly enjoyed by all - many thanks personally and on behalf of those in our club”.
