Dear Jeff:

On behalf of the disabled veterans participating in the local Project Healing Waters Program and the Massanutten Chapter of Trout Unlimited, we would like to share some background information with your organization.

The Project Healing Waters Program helps area veterans put their lives back together through fly-tying, fishing, and fishing outings. The group is volunteer run and assists disabled veterans suffering from physical incapacities, as well as emotional (PTST) disabilities. Volunteers help veterans on their journey with this therapeutic program. The vets themselves find that they are able to focus on the at- hand activity, relax, and enables him/her to make friends and build self-esteem.

The program brings veterans of all ages together with their peers and enables them to talk about their experiences. This builds confidence by learning to tie flies, cast a line, catch a fish, build a rod, etc. The program is self funded and there is no cost to the veterans. The veterans remain in the program as long as they like.

If any of the Ruritan Clubs would like hear more about Project Healing Waters at any of your member meetings, we would appreciate the opportunity to talk about the program, please contact me a (540) 432-0607, or dichb@aol.com via email.
