The North Shenandoah Ruritan Club meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm.  Our meetings are held at the Lebanon Church Community Center and Laurel Hill Christian Church.  We received three new members to our club at the March meeting:  Lucy and Don King and their son Ben.  Ben is currently an associate member but may become an active member if his work allows.  So that means we currently have 29 members in the club; of that number two are associate members and two are youth members. We also recognized Dickie Hodson as our Ruritan Forever member by presenting him a plaque at our March meeting.

Donations are always accepted for the Empty Stocking Fund.  Mail payments to Empty Stocking Fund, PO Box 411, Strasburg, VA 22657.  Checks should be made out to Ruritan Empty Stocking.  Our Social Development Chair, Gene Atwell, along with club member Karen Decker have attended the first meeting of the year in preparation for the 2011 Xmas season. 2010 served 500 kids.  During this Xmas season, 550 kids will be presented with their Xmas presents.

Our club has already started working on their projects for the year.  We consistently support the Compassion Cupboard Food Bank on a daily basis and then monthly when distribution is made.  Two members of our club, Carl "Denny" Heishman and Karen Decker daily pick up food in our local area prior to distribution. 2010 support to the CC was a total of 1581 hours.

We had a guest speaker at our January meeting – Officer Steve Bowers spoke about the TRIAD program for senior citizens.  The annual conference will be held on June 3, 2011 at the Woodstock Moose Lodge.  Times TBD.  The purpose of this one day conference is to reduce the fear of crime among senior citizens by increasing awareness of scams and fraud targeting them.

The Environment Committee is getting ready to check over the lawn mower in anticipation of mowing the grounds of the Lebanon Church Community Center and Lebanon Lutheran Church in the spring.  Gene Atwell will once again provide his support to this project.

Patsy Miller provided 24 hours at the Strasburg Museum during 2010.  She will once again support this year.

The Citizenship and Patriotism committee has included the request for flags in need of disposing and supporting the patriotic essay contest as two or their projects this year.  Another potential project is to host the Veteran’s in July in honor of their service to our country.  This will be finalized at a future meeting.

All club members are continuing to support the recycling program.
