Daniel Harvey "Jack" Abbott

Daniel Harvey "Jack" Abbott, 89, of Rileyville, died May 27, 2016, at his home. 

He was born on October 27, 1926, in Rileyville and was a son of late Daniel Sim and Edith Shenk Abbott. 

Mr. Abbott was a retired dairy farmer and lifelong resident of Rileyville. He was a member of Rileyville Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent over the years. He was a lifelong member of the Rileyville Ruritan Club and held many offices in his earlier years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Shenandoah Mutual Fire Insurance Company for many years. Mr. Abbott was an avid horseman and continued his lifelong love of horses into his later years, continuing to ride in his 80s. 

Forrest Edward Eaton

Forrest Edward Eaton, 94, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Friday April 18, 2014

born on Nov. 21, 1919, in Broadway

 On June 16, 1956, he married the former Geraldine “Gerry” Ritchie Deavers, who survives.

 He joined Ruritans on 1/1/1957  -  Just over 57 years

George L. Wenger

George Logan Wenger, 83, passed away from this earth to his heavenly home on Aug. 14, 2013. He died at Willow Estates where he had been a patient for the last year.

Born Dec. 5, 1929, in Harrisonburg, Va., he was the son of the late P.G. and Mae Logan Wenger. 

A lifetime resident of the Edom area, he graduated from Linville-Edom High School and attended Bridgewater College.

Mr. Wenger was a dairy, poultry, and stock cattle farmer. He belonged and was an active member for 65 years of the Linville Edom Ruritan Club. He served 12 years on the Rockingham County School board and Massanutten Technical Center. He was also a member of the Civil War Round Table.

Mr. Wenger was an active member of Broadway Presbyterian Church, where he served as an active elder and choir member.

He will be remembered with great love and affection by his family and friends for the love of his Lord, sacred music, his country and his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, working, and showing his horses, the county fair, his joke telling and stories, and all the time he was fortunate to spend with his family.

George was the loving and devoted husband for 63 years to his high school sweetheart, Maxine Myers Wenger, whom he married on Sept. 3, 1949.

He was a devoted and loving father to their children, Sharon Rodgers (Chick), Doug Wenger (Cassia), Connie Arey (Greg), and their foster daughter, Carolyn Whetzel; grandchildren, Scott Wenger, Chris and Stephen Bagwell, Camila Campos, Brandon, Alex, and Logan Arey, and John and Sarah Wenger; and great-grandchildren, Kyle and Casey Wenger, Tyler and Heather Bagwell and Nichole Campos. Mr. Wenger is also survived by a niece, Sandra Strawderman and nephew, Chuck Wenger.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wenger was preceded in death by a son, G.L. Wenger II, and a brother, Charles (Pete) Wenger.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Broadway Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James F. Logan officiating. Burial will be private.

Friends may call at the Wenger home at anytime. Friends may also call at McMullen Funeral Home during the day Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Broadway Presbyterian Renovation Fund, Make checks payable to the Broadway Presbyterian Church, Attention: Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 366, Broadway, VA 22815, or to the Linville Edom Ruritan Club, P.O. Box 44, Linville, VA 22834.

McMullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

          Owen Housden.......Member of the Luray Club for over 45 years, President 2 terms, Sec 6 terms, Treas 10 terms, Director over 20 yrs, Zone Gov 2 terms, attended over 35 National Conventions, received his Club's "Ruritan of the Year"....was known as the "Gentleman from the Luray Ruritan Club"...wherever you saw "Owen", you saw his Bride, "Irma", who is a very active Ruritan herself

Ralph Charles Foltz Sr. died on October 13,2012.. He joined the Luray Ruritan Club in 1967.. He was a member for 49 years..he held every office in the club......

Edward W. "Bill" Parkins

Bill Parkins went home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2012, one day before his 62nd birthday.  Bill was a dedicated member of the Ruritan organization since December, 1995.  He joined the Rockingham Luncheon Ruritan Club as a charter member in August, 2008, where he served as a Director and Sargeant-at-Arms.  Individuals who knew him could sense he was unique in a special way and benefited from his friendship.  He will be missed by all.

Gene Wagner - Passed away Nov. 1, 2011 at the age of 91.   He joined Cross Keys - Mill Creek Ruritan Club in April, 1983.
