Rochester Elementary Physical Education Philosophy

    Physical Education is an essential component of the total education process. The primary goal of the Elementary Physical Education program is to promote an understanding that fitness and health are a lifelong personal responsibility. The overall emphasis is to help students develop a positive self-image through physical activities.
    The curriculum offers an exposure to a variety of experiences which promotes the development of lifelong health and fitness habits. Additional goals include; the promotion of good citizenship including safety skills, sportsmanship, responsibility, and respect for oneself and others.
 
Mr. Steve Hyzer

     Mr. Hyzer is a graduate of Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. 
 
    He has been teaching for over 35 years, mostly here in Rochester.   In addition to teaching, he was the Boys Junior Varsity Soccer coach at Spaulding High School for 15 years.  He has been a USA Jump Rope coach for many years.

He spent three years in the U.S. Army working in the recreation department and as a rappelling instructor.
 
    He has four children, loves soccer and most outdoor activities.  He really enjoys helping students learn skills and attitudes that will help them live healthy lives now and long into the future.
Mrs. Jess Shearn
Chamberlain
East Rochester
    
    Mrs. Shearn graduated from Plymouth State University in 2006 with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a health minor.
 
    Mrs. Shearn started teaching in 2006, and has experience at the middle and elementary levels.
 
    Mrs. Shearn loves to wakeboard in the summer, and ride snowmobiles in the winter.  She loves to teach soccer, volleyball and jump rope.
 
    Mrs. Shearn has a son named Jax. She also has a dog. A german shepard named Nautique. 
 
    Her favorite food is salad and whoopie pies!

    Ms. Drew graduated from UNH in 1990 with a BS in K-12 Physical Education and a Minor in Psychology.  She has worked at the elementary level since 2001.
 
    Ms. Drew loves teaching PE and helping kids learn new skills and new games.  Some of her favorite activities are the parachute, Survivor, Cone Scramble, Ghostbusters, The Daytona 500, and dancing!  She is looking forward to teaching her students about the importance of respect, responsibility, and safety, and good sportsmanship.
 
    In her spare time Ms. Drew loves to go shopping, playing softball, and walking on the beach. Ms. Drew has a black cat named Abby.  Her favorite colors are pink and purple and her favorite kind of food is chinese food!
