About the Rochester, NY AU Chapter

Americans United (AU) is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to preserving the constitutional principle of church-state separation as the only way to ensure religious freedom for all Americans.

The primary job of the Rochester Chapter is education. Our focus is on educating the public regarding the value of church-state separation and the necessity of religious liberty in a free and democratic society. Among the ways we do this is by hosting programs focusing on church/state separation issues, giving talks, and sponsoring tables at community and civic events.

Chapter members, with the help of the public, also engage in oversight by being attentive to local issues that may involve church/state separation.

Our Issues:
  1. Church Politicking
  2. Defending the Courts
  3. "Faith-Based" Initiatives
  4. Freedom of Religion
  5. Government-Sponsored Religion
  6. Marriage and Sexuality
  7. Religion in Public Schools
  8. Religious Vouchers
For more about these issues, with examples, go to the website of our parent organization Americans United for Separation of Church and State (au.org) located in Washington, DC.
