A rare opportunity to hear from an Australian leader in volunteer management

posted 16 Jan 2017, 02:21 by Rob Jackson

We are really pleased to be supporting Australian colleague Peter Heyworth as he plans a training tour of the UK in autumn 2017.

Peter is offering ten different half or full-day workshops. Topics include "Wellbeing and resilience for VPM’s", "Developing a culture that works" and "Leader. Manager. Wearer of many hats".

If you are interested in hiring Peter during his UK tour then please check out his online prospectus for further information and details on how to get in touch with Peter.

More about Peter Heyworth
Peter has been Executive Officer of Northern Volunteering, an Adelaide based Volunteer Centre in South Australia, for over eight years. A very experienced trainer, Peter has also managed volunteer programs for about 30 years from a local Community Centre to a large Statewide disability-focussed volunteer programme. Peter has been on numerous committees at State and national levels on a range of topics from course advisory panels developing nationally accredited qualifications; reviewing the national definition of volunteering, to working on a State strategy for volunteering in South Australia. He was instrumental in establishing Australia & New Zealand’s first volunteer manager professional association, now called AAMoV.

Important news regarding changes to our blog

posted 18 Nov 2016, 02:09 by Rob Jackson

Since 2011 we have published 112 blog posts on the Rob Jackson Consulting Ltd blog. Those posts together have amassed 108,111 views from countries around the globe. Thank you.

However, we felt it was time for a change. The blog has been hosted on Google's Blogger platform and it is looking rather tired and old. We've also been plagued with problems over the years as some people cannot seem to post comments to blog, causing frustration for them and us.

So, today, we can proudly announce that the Rob Jackson Consulting Ltd blog as not just one but two new homes.

Going forward all new blog posts will be published on a new WordPress site and on Medium.

The WordPress site gives us some new tools and resources for the blog. It should be easier for you to comment on posts and it will be easier for people to follow the blog and connect with us on social media.

Medium provides a platform to put our writing in front of a wider audience and gives you a choice as to how to want to engage with our writing.

If you're not familiar with Medium, it's a fairly new (and free to join!) site combining social media functionality with great written content. So you can follow authors, bookmark content to read later, like posts and share with others. One of the really nice features of Medium is the ability to go beyond the usual ability to comment on a post. With Medium you can highlight (and thus save) certain sections and also comment on individual sections of a post.

Both WordPress and Medium also give us better access to mobile functions so we can write, publish and manage the blogs on the go. These mobile features also make it easier for you to read on the move too, with better presentation of our blog on tablet and smartphone devices than Blogger provided.

Of course all 112 of our previous articles remain online for you to access and engage with at any time.

So, why don't you take a look at our blog's two new homes on  WordPress and on Medium. We'd love to know what you think and which you prefer. Head on over to the contact us page to see how you can get in touch.

Need to learn the essentials of volunteer management?

posted 10 Aug 2015, 05:05 by Rob Jackson

On Monday 7 September 2015 the next of our online Introduction to Volunteer Management courses is due to begin. This will be the penultimate course of the year and our colleague Sue Jones will be tutoring it.

The course runs over six weeks and covers everything you need to know to gain a firm grasp of the basics in working with volunteers.

The course normally costs £265 but a £20 discount is available for the remaining 2015 courses if you book on before 26th October.

What previous previous participants have said about the course:
  • "It was an amazing course, I have really appreciated the vast amount of valuable information. It has been a huge timesaver, as I had been faced with the task of filtering through all the info available on the web. But this has provided a firm foundation, and pointed me in all the right directions."
  • "My questions have all been answered."
  • "I did enjoy the course, and whilst a lot of the information was not new to me, it was great to look at again."
  • "Thank you for a concise and very useful course."
  • "The course was fantastic. Thanks so much."
  • "I would just like to thank you for your support. I really enjoyed doing this course and, as a new volunteer manager, I learnt a lot. I intend progressing further with on-going professional development in the very near future".

It has been the go-to book for enlightened CEOs, senior managers and board members around the world wanting to improve the strategic integration of volunteering with their mission, and a guide for volunteer resources managers striving to influence “up” in their organisations.

This latest edition is fully revised and adapted for readers in the United Kingdom. With UK-specific chapters on legal and financial issues, FROM THE TOP DOWN - UK EDITION is the essential guide for UK organisations to achieve maximum impact from the participation of volunteers.

Our prices are changing

posted 2 Mar 2015, 01:49 by Rob Jackson

Since we started trading in April 2011, Rob Jackson Consulting Ltd have kept our prices constant. Times are tough and we didn’t think it fair to raise our prices when many of the organisations we work with are facing their own financial challenges.

We’ve always known that we weren’t going to be able to keep those rates the same forever so we have decided that now is the time to put them up a little bit.

So, with effect from 1 April 2015 our standard pricing structure will be:

  • A full day training will cost £700 plus expenses plus VAT.
  • A half day training will cost £350 plus expenses plus VAT.
  • A conference workshop lasting a maximum of 90 minutes costs £200 plus expenses plus VAT.

That means an increase of £50 for a full day, an increase of £25 for a half day and the up-to-90minute workshop rate stays unchanged.

However, for any bookings made before the end of March 2015 we will honour the current rate.

So if you book us to run a full day workshop in September and you confirm that booking before the end of March it’ll cost £650 plus expenses plus VAT, not the new rate of £700 plus expenses plus VAT.

For anyone making multiple day bookings, e.g. for us to attend and speak at a conference or conduct a consulting project, we remain very happy to discuss bespoke pricing.

For overseas clients we always discuss pricing for our work on a case by case basis because of the vagaries of currency exchange rates.

If you would like to make a booking before the end of March 2015, or if you have any questions, or if you want to discuss bespoke pricing for a multiple-day booking then please contact Rob via rob@robjacksonconsulting.com or call +44 (0) 7557 419 074.

Keeping our customers happy

posted 10 Feb 2015, 05:53 by Rob Jackson

As part of our commitment to high standards of service and transparent business practice, we periodically publish our client satisfaction data for all to see.  The frequency with which we do this seems to have slipped to once a year so here is the data from 2014/15.

Since we started business back in April 2011, 100% of our customers said we demonstrated a sound understanding of their needs.

In the last year:
  • 100% of customers who responded to our survey said we had completely done what they wanted us to.
  • 100% of customers who responded to our survey said we'd met or exceeded their expectations.
  • 86% of customers who responded to our survey rated our work as great, with the other 14% rating us as good.

Quotes from our customers surveyed in the last year include:

"Thanks Rob great presentation!"

"Appreciated the professionalism shown from booking right though to delivery of the workshop. Thank you."

"It is a pleasure to work with you."

"The service Rob provided was excellent, his expert subject knowledge provoked lively debate and was a major contributory factor in us not only meeting the objectives for the event he facilitated, but actually exceeding them."

"Very professional and entertaining presentation. Throughout the day of our event, Rob's input was very well received and ensured that the day was a great success."

"Rob did a great job with the keynote and the workshops. He was also really easy to work with and flexible."

We’re really pleased with these results and the demonstration they provide of the high standard of service and quality of work that we provide to our customers.

If you'd like to speak to us about how we can help you then please do get in touch.
