Welcome to the home page of
Robert Cherny
Professor emeritus of History,
I taught in the history department at San Francisco State University from 1971 to 2012. I received my BA from the University of Nebraska and my MA and PhD from Columbia University, all in history. I had Fulbright appointments at Moscow State University and Heidelberg University. I was also an NEH Fellow and a visiting scholar at the Melbourne University.
Most of my teaching was on U.S. history since the Civil War. My publications deal with US politics in the Gilded Age and Progressive Era and with the history of the North American West, especially California and San Francisco. A full list of my publications can be found by clicking on the link below.
