Robert R. Shane, Ph.D.
Art History, Theory, and Criticism
Robert R. Shane received his Ph.D. in Art History and Criticism from Stony Brook University, where he studied with distinguished scholars in the fields of art history and philosophy, such as Donald Kuspit, Hugh J. Silverman, and Jacques Derrida. Dr. Shane is the author of several articles and essays on contemporary art and theory. He is Assistant Professor of Art History at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. He was the managing editor of the journal Art Criticism, published by Stony Brook University, and was a contributing writer to the “Art since the Mid-20th Century” section of the book The Art Museum, published by Phaidon, London (2011). His doctoral dissertation was an investigation of the work of video and performance artist Paul McCarthy, and his current research is an interdisciplinary study of twentieth-century intersections between art, modern dance, and philosophy of time.
