"Discarded computers are our most wasted educational resource".
I created a computer lab, for no money, at my school with the most up to date software. I used recycled computers run on user friendly, open source software. I did this all by being released from teaching for four hours a week, only.
What I did can reproduced at any underfunded school. If your school desires to have computer labs and technology based teaching for no money, read my article below, adopt this model.
I call my model of acquiring and using free computers realistically and successfully at underfunded public schools, the "Teacher on Special Assignment" model.
