FAQ'S RELATED TO SCREENING

Q: WHY DO YOU SCREEN MY STUDENT IN JUNE?

A: Each year in mid-June, Mitchell screens incoming Kindergartners for developmental purposes.  This is done in order to determine if a student may benefit from support services while in Kindergarten.  The screening visit takes about 20 minutes.  You will sign-in at the the school and a teacher will walk your student to a designated classroom and then walk your student back to you.  It's as easy as that!

Q: WHY CAN'T I BE WITH MY CHILD WHEN HE/SHE IS SCREENED?

A: The screening itself is brief and a Kindergarten teacher is with your child at all times.  The screening involves activities like block building, matching and picture recognition.  For a proper screening, the student must do these tasks on their own. Therefore, it is best that parents/guardians wait in the hallway.

Q: DOES MY CHILD NEED ANYTHING TO BE SCREENED?

A: It is recommended that your child wear sneakers.
