Fundraising

Roade Tennis Club is based on land owned by the Roade Village Hall & Playing Field Charity, and we are responsible for the upkeep of the courts and pavilion.   The courts are in need of resurfacing, and we have plans to install a new Astroturf surface which is kinder on joints and floodlighting to enable a longer playing season and offering more opportunities for evening play.   This will provide a further 15 years of tennis activities for all, young and old, in a safe and welcoming environment where the community can continue to learn, play, keep fit and have fun with tennis.

The whole project will cost around £96K.   Sport England are prepared to give us a grant of £45K if we can raise the balance by the end of 2018.  We have also secured a Community Development Capital Grant of £16K from South Northants Council, £2.5K from The Rank Foundation and £1K from Persimmon Community Champions.

Now Sport England have offered us the opportunity to take part in a pilot Crowdfunding scheme in which they will match whatever we raise.

Being able to offer a wider range of courses throughout the week (day and evening) all through the year will provide the local community opportunities to come along, meet new friends, learn a sport, keep fit and be active.  Once the new surfacing and floodlighting are installed, we would like to introduce new tennis initiatives, such as:

  • linking with  the “Mums & Tots” group.
  • offering an “over 50’s group” during the day where they can use the club house to have some refreshments before during and after tennis.
  • daytime “beginners course” and evening sessions aiming to improve fitness and wellbeing.
  • a “families group”, meaning parents and children coming along to learn to play, have some fun, develop skills & work towards a healthy lifestyle.
So if you’re a tennis fan, local business owner, member or visitor who wants to support your local sports club to grow and enable the next generation to keep enjoying and playing tennis your contribution will be much appreciated!
