Dr Madhavan is currently a Professional Research Staff at the Center for Agile and Adaptive Additive Manufacturing, University of North Texas. Previously, he held the position of Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering, University of New Mexico. His current research at UNT include understanding the microstructural evolution, processing-microstructure-property relationships in additively manufactured materials. He received a PhD in Materials Engineering from Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, for his research work on processing-crystallographic texture-microstructure relationships in face-centered cubic materials. He obtained his Bachelors degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, India in 2006.

His research interests include, (1) Microstructure evolution in additively manufactured metals and composites; (2) Nanostructured alloys and multilayers; (3) Tribology properties across length scales; (4) Materials processing.
