Our 20th Year!

Welcome to the Home page of Riverside Raconteurs -
Storytelling Bonfires
A summertime tradition in Grand Rapids, Michigan since 1999

Stories around a crackling fire under summer evening skies...

It’s the oldest form of entertainment – people gathered around a fire to share poems, stories and songs.

The Story Spinners of Grand Rapids and Blandford Nature Center host the 20th year of

Riverside Raconteurs Storytelling Bonfires, open to the public.

on Friday evenings in June, July and August, 2018.

Individuals and families are invited to spread a blanket under twilight skies and to participate, as tellers of tales, singers of songs, or listeners of lore.

Bring a blanket or chair, some bug spray and, if you like, a memorized story, poem or song.

Dates: June 29, July 27, and August 24, 2018

Time: 9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

The July bonfire features our annual

Nash-off!

Ogden Nash was an American poet who was famous for his short, whimsical poems like...

“Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.”

and

“The cow is of the bovine ilk;
One end is moo, the other, milk.”

Memorize a few, and you can contribute to our rapid-fire round robin to see how many Ogden Nash poems we can do in a row.

Our all-time record was ... 33!
