Ramon J. Batalla
Ramon is Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography at the University of Lleida (UdL), Senior Researcher on Hydrological Processes at the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) and Researcher at the Forest Science Centre of Catalonia (CTFC). He received his PhD from the University of Barcelona in 1993 for research into the sediment budget of the River Arbúcies in the Catalan Coastal Ranges. He is a fluvial geomorphologist whose scientific activity focuses on monitoring and modelling fluvial processes, especially sediment transport in sand and gravel-bed rivers. In addition, his research has a significant applied focus, examining the effect of human interference on catchment and river processes in Mediterranean basins, in particular the effects of dams on water and sedimentary regimes in regulated rivers, and bio-physical interactions in streams and channels (Eco-Geomorphology). He participates and leads competitive projects and research contracts at both national and international levels, in collaboration with the Universities of Aberdeen, Potsdam and Alcalá, amongst others.
