Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist Retreat

In September 2011, we held our third annual anti-bias/anti-racist retreat that has grown from a joint effort between RISE and the School of Education.  The initial goals of the retreat were to begin to build the foundation necessary for critical conversations surrounding race within the School of Education and to strengthen potential for sustained dialogue in formal and informal spaces.  Our goals include fostering critical dialogue that can serve to disrupt endemic racism and the assumption that whiteness is normative; as well as encourage and privilege the use of counter-narratives.

This year we hold our fourth retreat, open to the faculty, staff, and doctoral students in the School of Education, on Thursday September 6th.
