Filomena Maggino is associate professor at the University of Firenze. She is the President in office of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS) and Editor in Chief at Social Indicators Research journal. Maggino’s main research interests are related to the methodological approaches to measure societal (collective) and individual well-being.




Quality of life and well-being in Switzerland and its evolution over the past decades

Christian Suter is professor of sociology at University of Neuchâtel. He is the president of the Institute for Sociology in Neuchâtel, member in various research networks, including the scientific board of FORS, and the executive committee of the Swiss Society of Sociology. Suter’s main fields of interest include economic sociology, social change, social indicators, social stratification.



Greater happiness for a greater number: How can that be achieved?

Ruut Veenhoven is emeritus-professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands and extra-ordinary professor at North-West University in South Africa. He is the most preeminent scholar to study happiness, and can easily labeled as founder of this field of study. Veenhoven is director of the World Database of Happiness and founding editor of the Journal of Happiness Studies.




What is Quality of Life? Theories and measurements

Claire Wallace is professor of Sociology at University of Aberdeen. Her current research focuses mainly on quality of life and digital economy. Former fields of study include postcommunist change, social capital, work-household relation, migration. She is currently writing a book “The Decent Society” with Pamela Abbott and Roger Sapsford, (Routledge forthcoming) about approaches to, and measurements of, the quality of society. Wallace is part of various research networks, and was, among other positions, president of the European Sociological Association, president of the Director of the European Observatory on social cohesion and trust and editor of the European Societies journal.
