CAASPP Testing (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress)

We are gearing up for CAASPP Testing, which is the new statewide assessment system replacing STAR.  For your convenience and future planning, we have attached the testing schedule.  You can see that we will be testing in small chunks over several days to help ease test anxiety and fatigue.

If you would like to see what kinds of questions your child will be asked to do, or would like to help them prepare, please take some time to preview the CAASPP Practice Test.  You do not need to enter any login information.

Because these tests are online, we recommend students take some time building their typing skills.  Here is a website that is both fun AND educational:  Free Typing Game

As we move closer to testing, we will send out reminders and more information.  Please feel free to e-mail Gina Burns and or Fayanne Bakoofor questions regarding statewide testing.

We hope that this was valuable information for you and your family!

High School Registration

posted 19 Feb 2015, 07:54 by Jase St Peter

We are fast-approaching the end of your child's 8th grade year, which means high school is right around the corner!

We will begin working with students on their high school registration materials this week.  Team Nile will be the first team to go through class presentations, followed by Spirit and Rio Verde the week of March 2nd.  We have attached an outline with all fo the important information regarding high school registration.  We have also attached the presentation we will be giving students during their class periods to help them complete their registration forms.

Please note, that we do have all students participate in registration for Valencia.  However, we also assist them with registration for other schools that they may be attending, the process for Valencia is similar to all high schools and we can use that information to help your child register for any of the other schools in the district they may be attending.

We hope that this information is valuable to you, and we will continue to update you with information regarding registration, as well as upcoming events at the high school, as we move through the end of the year.

Thank you!

Francine dos Remedios, Assistant Principal

Lisa Steinman, Counselor & Registration Coordinator

Good afternoon!

We have a few upcoming Rio Norte events that we would like to share with you.  Please mark your calendars!

Wednesday, January 28th

There was a small error when we made the calendar.  Typically, with our rotating clock schedule, tomorrow would be an E-3 day.  However, it was printed as an E-1 day.  Please have your student follow the calendar in their binder reminder and report to Period 1 during the first block of the day.

Monday, February 2nd

8th Grade students take their panoramic picture during Advisory.  Order forms went home this week, if you wish to order a copy.  If your student did not receive an order form, or needs a new one, please have them see Mrs. Tucker in the ASB Window.

Tuesday, February 3rd

ASB will be holding a fundraiser at Chipotle.  50% of all proceeds will go to Rio Norte Junior High School.  Please plan to head out to Chipotle for dinner to support your Riverhawks.

Thursday, February 5th (6:00 - 8:00 p.m.)

Rio Norte will be hosting a district sponsored event for students and their families, titled "Successful Character Traits".  The two guest speakers are Jersey Mike's franchise owner, Steve Youlios, and life coach and college professor, Dan Williams. They are both inspirational speakers and will focus on motivating students to be their best right now. The flyer is attached.

Monday, February 9th

We will have our first career guest speaker group.  We are still looking for parents to fill the panels, so if your job falls into any of the following categories, and you are willing to come speak to our students, please contact Mrs. Cotti ASAP:  Law Enforcement, Health Sciences, Legal, Fire/EMT, Business, Engineering, or Entertainment.  The flyer with the dates of each panel is attached.  (ncotti@hartdistrict.org)

Wednesday, February 11th and Thursday February 12th

Students will be taking Spring Portraits during their elective classes.  More information will be handed out to them soon!

Thursday, February 12th

ASB will be hosting our annual Valentine's Dance from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Don't forget, if you would like to thank a staff member for going above and beyond, please follow this link:  tinyurl.com/rioravereview
