Rika Wright Carlsen

I am a Mechanical Engineer interested in biological problems.  My research focuses on the application of mechanics to understand how biological systems function and sometimes fail to function properly, such as in the case of injury and disease.  My recent work has been on the development of computational and experimental tools to study traumatic brain injury (TBI), and the development of bio-hybrid micro-robotic systems for use in targeted drug delivery and disease diagnosis.

I received my M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.  I also conducted research as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Nanorobotics Laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University.
