RIGA THE CAPITAL OF LATVIA

Riga is the capital city of Latvia and the largest city in the Baltic states and one of the largest and most vibrant city in the whole Baltic - Nordic region.

The city has lots to offer, depending on your interests. It has a very rich history, beautiful architecture, including the medieval Old Town, famous Art Nouveau district and Soviet era apartment block building districts, rich culture and traditions. Its diversity in all senses of the word guarantees something exciting for every taste. Many who have come to Riga once, tend to fall in love with it from the first sight and return back to Riga again and again. Would you like to try and see whether it works for you as well?

HOW MANY IDENTITES DOES RIGA HAVE?

"We have been wondering about that for a long time without a clear answer and have finally decided to find out. Here at the University of Latvia we believe that students can provide best answers, therefore this summer our department will be starting a new summer school tradition for international students that are interested in learning and sharing their creative experience in the field of communication. We are truly excited to extend this invitation to all students, who have ideas about using photo, film and video to tell a story. 21 of you from all over the world will look at the identity of Riga through the lenses of camera and together will try to find out something that has never been done before – discover what Riga and its people are all about. Riga is a very diverse city in all senses of the word and therefore serves as an exciting place to research, fall in love with, and capture on film. Hope to see you in Riga this summer and, of course, can’t wait until the new Riga identity videos, produced during the Riga Summer School, are showcased."Inta Brikše, Chair of University of Latvia’s Department of Communication and Creator of Riga Summer School
