I'm a professional geek, and have been since the early 90's.  My background is in systems administration which, to me, leads directly to systems security.  I have a philosophy that well managed systems are secure systems, and the more experience I gain in computer security, the more that seems to hold true.  Understanding what a machine is running allows you to understand the risks associated with that system, and thus take an appropriate security stance for it, whether the stance is to hide it in the deepest darkest recesses of your data center, or throw it out on the front lines of your web presence.   My experience covers everything from basic systems installation and patch maintenance to building data centers and security programs.  I've been the technician and the manager and I find that I prefer to be the technician in most environments.

Without further ado, my current CV in PDF.
