THE FLYING FRIAR by Rich Johnston

A sneak peek at the first few pages of my new graphic novel.... and where to get it!

The Hard Sell

Late 2007 saw the full colour publication of “The Flying Friar” graphic novel by Rich Johnston, Thomas Nachlik, Thomas Mauer and Ian Sharman, published by Markosia Comics (not 'Murkosia' as The Guardian would have it!).

It tells the apparently true story of a 17th century Italian saint, Joseph of Copertino, who was seen flying by thousands of people in his life, with a pop culture twist.

As Joseph grows up in rural Italy alongside the grand nephew of reformer Martin Luther, Lux. A man who can fly, his friend Lux Luther, a story of religion versus science, friend versus friend, of greed corruption, power and superpowers. And it all happened 400 years ago.

Smallville meets The Name Of The Rose. Details on how to get a copy below.

If you have trouble finding a copy with your address and I'll find you a local seller!

"A beautiful pallette of browns and golds... well-written". - The Guardian Review

"Well worth seeking out" - The Telegraph

"Rather beautiful new graphic novel" - Popbitch

"Saints don't ordinarily make good comic book heroes... the exception to all this is St Joseph of Copertino" - G2

"This is one terrific book and I can’t recommend it highly enough" - Pop Culture Zoo

"One of the best reads of 2007"- Newsarama

"Exceptionally thought provoking... beautiful, beautiful stuff" - Ain't It Cool News

"Well paced, well scripted and beautifully drawn" - Variety

"One of the best and, given our current American culture’s fear of offending anyone when it comes to discussing religion, ballsiest Elseworlds stories that DC never published" - Newsarama

"Rich Johnston, Satan take his balls, has found one of Those Ideas... The Name Of The Rose via Smallville" - Warren Ellis

"A fabulous fabulous book" - Regie Rigby

"Thomas Nachlik's art, with its angular lines and parchment tones, fits the tone of the work beautifully" - Valerie D'Orazio

"A testament to Rich's ability to weave an interesting tale that sucks me in" - Kevin Huxford
