This line was broad gauge but is now standard gauge
from Melbourne via North Geelong to Ararat
and through to Adelaide.

Before the Altona line was extended to Laverton, there were 3 stations.
After leaving Newport the first was the now-abandoned  Mobiltown station

D1 at Fyansford  Cement Works.This locomotive was purchased by the Victorian Railways,

changed to T 413, and was used  mainly on the Wodonga to Cudgewa branch ,in Victoria's north east,

due to it being the only T class with a dynamic brake.

  Mortlake.Apart from the Terang Race Course,

Mortlake was the only station on this now-closed branch.

Ararat  is on the Melbourne  via Ballarat line 

 broad gauge  whilst the

 standard gauge line (from North Geelong) continues  to Adelaide.
