First a short introduction. I have been a lawyer for many years, specialising in property transactions. My particular interest is in landlord and tenant. In the 1960s and early 1970s I was captivated by the Parker books Modern Conveyancing Precedents and Modern Wills Precedents.
By the 1980s I was a committed plain English drafter (but would have called myself a draftsman in those days) convinced that almost all legal concepts no matter how tricky in themselves could be expressed in clear standard language. The need for legalese is largely a myth.

As time goes on I hope to expand this website and to explore more fully the quirks and oddities of English generally. For those of you who would like to see my CV, please click in the left-hand column.
