Rice Sacks for the Rainforest
Warming you, saving the planet!

This project is indefinitely suspended.
I have a new website where I have information about my Fall 2013 project to make maps for the Children's Eternal Rainforest.

Do you want to be able to preserve rainforest? This is a good chance! You can buy an energy saving Rice Sack hot/cold pack
(also made using solar power!), and know that most of your money will be used to buy
rainforest in Costa Rica. I hope you like my products!

My name is Gabe, and I am a teenage homeschooler near Philadelphia. Because I care about preserving rainforest, I donate my time for this project. I invite you to join me in this effort!

Thank you for looking at this website!

Also look at my Map the BEN website for my September, 2013 project.

We were featured in the November, 2011, and Summer, 2013, newsletters of MCLUS (now FCER, where we send money).

  • How you can help! The Monteverde Conservation League is a non-profit that owns 55,000 acres of land (the Children's Eternal Rainforest) and is always in need of money to protect this forest and buy more land. This is the largest reserve in Costa Rica that is privately managed and it includes important habitat on both the Caribbean and Pacific sides. It costs a lot to protect the forest and to do environmental education in the communities around the CER. Every donation makes a difference! I don't have much time to make Rice Sacks this year, but I am willing to make special orders. Contact me if you are interested for availability of fabrics. Even though I won't be making ...

  • Donation -- October 2013 I just spent a month in Costa Rica making maps for the Children's Eternal Rainforest (CER). You can read more about my project on my Map the BEN website.I still had some money that I had raised through Rice Sacks for the Rainforest and from other donations, so I presented a check for $1132 at the Monteverde Conservation League board meeting. Thank you to everyone who made donations! I have raised a total of $5500 for the CER during my lifetime.

  • My Upcoming Volunteer work in the Children's Eternal Rainforest I have very exciting news! I have been raising money for the Children's Eternal Rainforest (CER) for over ten years (including through Rice Sacks for the Rainforest). For several years, I have wanted to help in a way other than just sending donations. This year I have the opportunity to do that. For the last year, I have been learning GIS and cartography at a local university. In August I will go to the CER with my family to spend five weeks volunteering. I will be making new maps and trail guides, my father (a biologist) will help with field ID and consulting on their research programs, and my mother will help with writing and translating trail guides. We ...

  • New Product I now am making a new style of Rice Sack. Because of a custom order this fall, I have designed a extra-large Rice Sack. These Rice Sacks are about 25% bigger than back size Rice Sacks, and have about 1 pound more rice. These Rice Sacks have channels sewn in them to help keep the rice from sliding around. If you are interested in these, or for more information, contact me.

  • If you'd like to submit a testimonial, just email me!  Thanks.
  • Wonderful Product! THANK YOU for the wonderful rice sacks!  As soon as the weather got cold, I started using my rice sacks again.  Every night I use at least two to help keep my feet warm and to soothe my back and/or shoulder as I go to sleep.  When I wake up in the morning, I usually heat one up again so I can start my day with its warmth.  Thanks for providing such a versatile and wonderful product!   -  Brenda N.,  Brookhaven PA
