World of Work: RHS PLC LA: Arts, Media and Entertainment

Date and Time: October 5-7 

Location: Los Angeles County

Description: Learn about the world of art, media and entertainment. Visit community based organizations, technical training programs and colleges

featuring art. Learn from the stories of others and share your story. 


World of Work: Santa Cruz County Bug Barn Work Based Learning Activity
CTE Agriculture and Natural Resources Industry Sector: Entomology & Public Education
Date and Time: August 1-September 30 Location: Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds

Description: Investigate the relationships between insects, agriculture and you!

Design, develop and staff a 1,000 square foot exhibit for the 2017 Santa Cruz County

Fair. Learn the professional standards required to work as a team. This year's theme is 

"Things with Wings" featuring butterflies, dragonflies and a variety of other winged insects.

World of Work: Visual and Performing Arts

Life in the Theatre Arts-Stage Crew


Date and Time: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, July 10-12th 8:30am-1:30pm. 

Location: Cabrillo Stage (Cabrillo College VAPA, Aptos Campus)

Description: Learn about the world of professional theatre. Work behind the scenes to prepare

for upcoming stage productions. 5 hrs x 3 days=15 hrs. of community service or 1.5 credits with 

assignment meetings, interview, work log and photos shared on time, with contract in Google Drive. Meet at Cabrillo Watsonville Center 8:30am. 


World of Work: Science and Field Research

Bay Area Entomology 


Date and Time: Thursday, July 13th 8:00am-8:00pm

Location: California Academy of Sciences Entomology Department, San Francisco

Description: Explore the world reknown California Academy of Sciences Natural History Museum. Tour the

Entomology Department and interview scientists to learn about the relationship between insects, people and

our environment. Work with Entomologists to develop a display for the 2017 Santa Cruz County Fair. 

12+ hrs. of community service or credit (written contract required) with exhibit meetings, interview, 

work log and photos shared on time in Google Drive. Meet at Cabrillo Watsonville Center 8am.



World of Work: Agriculture

Soil! It's Alive!

Date and Time: July 18th 1:30pm-4:30pm             

Location: Watsonville Worm Castings, Whiskey Hill Farms, Watsonville

Description: What is a worm casting? Learn how the lowly earthworm can help plants grow healthier and stronger.

3+hrs. of community service or credit (written contract required) with exhibit meetings, interview, 

work log and photos shared on time in Google Drive. Meet at Cabrillo Watsonville Center 1:30pm.


World of Work: Public Education

Santa Cruz County Fair: Bug Barn


Date and Time: July-September by arrangement            

Location: Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, Watsonville

Description: Work with community organizations to develop a 1000 square foot exhibit for the 2017 Santa Cruz County Fair. RHS students

help to develop displays and staff the exhibit. Community service or credit (written contract required) with exhibit meetings, interview, 

work log and photos shared on time in Google Drive. 



World of Work: Public Education

Gilroy Gardens

Date and Time: July-September by arrangement

Location: Gilroy Gardens, Gilroy

Description: Train to be a docent with Gilroy Gardens. Learn about the exhibits and displays that make up this

unique educational family amusement park. Community service or credit (written contract required) with exhibit meetings, interview, 

work log and photos shared on time in Google Drive. Professional Dress: -plain white shirt, khaki/dress jeans or shorts, closed

toed shoes, no hats.

                                                                      Discuss your ideas, strengths, challenges and personal characteristics. Conference with you and your parent

                                                                      to support your on time graduation. Your advisor can help you review scholarship requirements and application.

Breakfast Club                                             General group information sessions focus is on time graduation and postsecondary planning

Job Training Programs                               Get credit, earn a career certificate or get paid through job training programs such as Suenos, 
                                                                       or Gavilan College Community Extension courses

College-Career Advising                             Contact Kim or Rob to set up a time for a college or career advising appointment

World of Work Field Trips                           Tour local career technical colleges, community colleges, businesses and programs. Talk with
                                                                       employers and employees to learn their college or career path.

College-Career Speakers                            Attend guest speaker sessions by college students and staff, career technical industry                   
                                                                       representatives, and career professionals. Learn about postsecondary programs and workforce
