She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, her master's degree from the Medical College of Georgia, and her PhD from the University of Central Florida. Her research is focused on lupus. She is a board member and chairman of education for the Lupus Foundation of Florida and volunteers at a lupus/rheumatology clinic for the uninsured.
