Response To Comments (Paid)

This is a blog where I post responses to select comments posted by users on the Android Market for the paid version of the app.

If you've posted a question, complaint, bug report, feature request, or something along those lines, see below for my response.

If and when I adequately address your concern, please consider updating your comment, or just email me directly with feedback.

I respond to some comments with a wee bit of sarcasm - these are meant to be taken in a light-hearted manner.

Please do not read if you do not have a sense of humor.

Only Bus Stops The free as well as paid version only gives me a screen to type in bus ID numbers. There is no way to access instructions or a screen for Metra, South Shore Line, CTA trains, maps, or so called home screen widget. This was a definite waste of time and money.

MrKmikeyDoesNotFit - I tried to address your concern on Google Play but have not heard back from you.

I want to make sure I understand this correctly.

The app listing on Google Play has multiple screen shots showing all of the features of the app, right?

The app has listing clearly describes all of these features, right?

The app has nearly 700 5 star reviews, so most people have obviously found and used these features, right?

The app has instructions on the very first screen when you first open it explaining how to access other parts of the app, right?

The app has this entire web site full of instructions and FAQs that would help you figure it out, right?

The app definitely has a home screen widget that is accessible just like any other apps' home screen widget, right?

Yet, since you could not figure it out, the only conclusion you could draw was that this was a limitation of the app, not a misunderstanding on your part?

Well, of course! That is the obvious, logical conclusion to come to given the above facts! What else could the problem be!?

It honestly seems like you simply do not know how to use an Android device.

If you ever see this and want help, I'd be happy to walk you through using the app.

After all, you did pay for it, so why be stuck with a "waste of money" instead of simply asking for help?

My Rating:
Only False Information The free as well as paid version gives much more than just a screen to type in bus ID numbers. There are ways to access instructions and screens for Metra, South Shore Line, CTA trains, maps, and the so called home screen widget (so called because it is a widget on the home screen). This was a definite waste of time and rating.

No pace The pace schedules haven't been loading all week and its really stressful

Snap Into a Slim Kim - Hey kim! I'm so sorry you've had a stressful week!

I definitely know what it's like to be stressed out! Let me tell you about my week...

So I got a two-star rating from a user (who shall remain nameless), which itself already suck, you know?

But this person (whom I won't call out) didn't ask for help or give me an opportunity to solve their problem, so there's nothing I can do to help, you know?

Which sucks, because I really want to help, but I can only do so for people that actually ask for it, you know?

And what makes this worse is that I have a FAQ covering this exact scenario, so this person (who's name I shall not expose) obviously didn't bother reading that!

But here's the real kicker! I took the time to reply on Google Play to the user (who's identity I will not divulge), which sends them an email, and I still didn't hear back!

So this individual (who's persona I shan't reveal) took the time to post a bad rating before asking for help, but can't take the time to ask for help - even after I tried to reply and even though they're stressed out about their problem!

Can you imagine how frustrating that is? I'm just glad this person is totally NOT you.

Obviously you wouldn't do that since you know what it's like when someone else stresses you out.

Thanks for listening.

Anyway, enough about my problems ... you were saying you were having a stressful week?

Want to talk about it? How about you shoot me an email ... ?

My Rating:
No patience The user hasn't been asking for help all week and its really stressful

CRASHING BIG TIME Lately this app crashes constatnly. It'll ask if I want to file a report but crashes half way thru Needs a Patch BIG TIME

At the Buzard - Please read the FAQs concerning how to ask for help. Leaving a comment / rating doesn't help me solve your problem!

I haven't updates the app since the 1st of the month - if your issue is happening "lately", then it would indicate a problem local to you and / or your device and not the app itself.

If you were unable to complete sending a bug report, then you could have just emailed me with this problem!

As it stands I have no way of reading your mind or diagnosing the problem to even begin to guess at what the issue could be to try to help you!

The app crashes? Doing what? Under what conditions?

You want a patch? For what? What patch am I supposed to provide if I have no information whatsoever to go on?

Please contact me for assistance and I'll be glad to investigate further. Otherwise, my psychic mind-reading and remote-debugging powers are quite limited!

My Rating:
LACKING BIG TIME Lately this comment lacks detail "constatnly". It'll ask if I can patch a crash but doesn't elaborate half way thru Needs more INFORMATION BIG TIME

Update sucks Saving treks sucks. Tried 4 times and can't save. After 4 years using goodbye

morris less - Hi Tim. Thank you so much for this great review.

It really makes my day when people take the time to leave level-headed and reasonable comments like this.

I appreciate that you did not waste my time or yours simply asking for help with something that is probably very simple to resolve.

Obviously if you're having a problem with an app you paid for and have been using for 4 years, the logical and reasonable thing to do is rate it down and abandon it.

It's like when the car I had was making this banging noise: did I ask for help? Hell no! I drove that 4-year-old junk-heap into the lake and sent Honda a nasty email - like an adult.

I mean, what other recourse do you have, right!?

It's not like you can email me directly from within the app.

It's not like I respond to every single email I get.

It's not like you can send a bug report directly from within the app.

It's not like I check bug reports every single day and try to fix every problem I find.

NOPE! Too bad I don't do those things leaving you absolutely no option but to leave a negative rating.

I apologize for not preemptively fixing the problem I did not know you would have.

Please read this FAQ. Thanks.

Review sucks Reading complaint sucks. Tried 4 times and can't comprehend. After 4 years using, why not just ask for help?

Great app. One fix needed Love the app. The labels functionality is much better. One thing i noticed though is that deleting treks by removing labels isn't working for me. Fix that and it will be perfect.

I've Phalen And I Can't Get Up - Hey buddy, thanks for comment.

I am unable to reproduce this problem - this functionality works as expected for me.

It would be most useful if you could email me directly with more details, or use the app's built-in bug-reporting feature to submit a bug report.

I can't provide support via the Google Play Store comments.

Hope to hear from you.

My Rating: Great comment. One fix needed Love the comment. The four stars is much better. One thing i noticed though is that reporting bugs by commenting on the Play Store isn't working for me. Email me and I can fix it so it's perfect.

Best tracker out there Could be a little more user friendly though

A Paul'd - Hey bud, thanks for the feedback!

I'm constantly working to improve the app, so bear with me, it'll get better.

Of course, I'm no UI designer, so if you have specific suggestions on making the app more user friendly, please let me know! (Preferably via email)

This goes for everyone - help me improve the app! I can't fix things if I don't know what specifically is a problem.

Alright? Alright!

Only thing missing is reminders Works great with a very responsive and responsible dev. The only thing that I really wish it had is some sort of alarm or reminder system that'd alert me when my train is like 15 minutes away.

Boulder Vash - Hey! Good news! This feature already exists!

Check out the help pages for Groups, Quick Treks, and Alerts (access to the help is also available directly within the app).

Or email me if you still have questions on how to use this feature, or if it's not quite what you're looking for.

My Rating:

Used to work better... This would be a 5 star app if the quick trek worked again. Right now it's only doing half the job I bought it for.

Erratic - I'm sorry you're having issues with the Quick Treks feature.

But please remember that the Google Play store is not a support forum.

Please read the FAQs on reporting issues.

If you contact me or submit a bug report, I'll be able to investigate the issue and hopefully fix it for you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

My Rating:
Still works the same... This would be a 5 star comment if the user would email me. Right now I only have half the information I need to fix the problem.

Best chicago transit app But not without flaws. Find stop by ID hasn't worked since the first time I tried it, and finding nearby stops (Quick Treks?) just spins forever with no information.

Kevin Diesel - Hey Kevin, if you're having technical issues with the app, please email me or use the app's built-in bug-reporting feature. This is what it's there for!

I cannot address issues via the Google Play review space (see this FAQ).

That said, I'm aware of reports from some users not being able to use the Find Stop By ID feature. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it only affects a few people, and I am investigating.

Regarding the Quick Treks issue, that's a new one. Please, again, email me or report it as a bug so I can investigate.

My Rating:
Good review But not without flaws. Reporting issues on Google Play hasn't worked since the app launched, and trying to understand the problem this way just makes my head spin forever with no information.

Do not buy Never gave good directions to bus stops. Would keep telling me to take a bus that didn't even stop at the bus stops it told me to go to.

Ball Zach - I'm sorry you ran into this issue, but this is not a good way to report issues.

First, please read the FAQs.

Next, please understand that with any software there will be issues that may be due to bad programming, user error, or hardware problems.

The only way to determine the exact nature of the issue you had is to contact me with more information and letting me investigate.

If you email me with details of the issue you are experiencing perhaps I can fix the problem and make it so the app works to your liking.

And, heck, if I can't than I could at least refund your money!

Doesn't that sound like a better path to take? After all, you did like the app enough to pay for it, did you not?

A one-star "review" for an app you paid for does not help anyone.

My Rating:
Do not read Never contacted for help with issue. Would keep telling me problems on the Google Play Store where I can't help at all.
