In a battle between two of the top three teams in the RHL, the Islanders and Bruins battled to a 0-0 tie at the Boston Garden. New York's Roland Melanson and Boston's Pete Peeters each made 31 saves for their respective teams. The Islanders (39-11-10) have the best record in the league by a comfortable margin with 88 points. The Bruins (35-23-2) lead the Adams Division by 15 points over the Canadiens.
