Weddings

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure.

Hebrews 13:4

Requirements for Church Ceremony

    • Weddings are performed for OSLC members only. Children of members may be married in the church if they adhere strictly to the moral principles of the church, especially as laid out in the Sixth Commandment in Luther's Small Catechism.
    • Four sessions of premarital counseling with Pastor Young including PREPARE from Life Innovations.
    • Obtain marriage license from any town, village, or city hall in New York State (not including New York City) at least 24 hours before but not more than 60 days before the ceremony.

Scheduling the Church Ceremony

All reservations for weddings are taken strictly on a first-come, first-served basis and are held with a $100 deposit. The church calendar may be viewed at www.oursaviorlutheran.org (click on "Calendar" on the left-hand navigation bar). When checking the online calendar for possible open dates, be sure that "Outside Groups" are displayed; an open date on the calendar does not guarantee availability for your wedding — you must confirm it with Pastor Young at 914-204-1700, or pastor@oursaviorlutheran.org.

Weddings may generally be scheduled anytime before 3:30 p.m. or after 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, anytime after 2:00 p.m. on Sundays, and on most weekdays (Monday through Friday) at any time. We recently installed air-conditioning in the church, so summer weddings will now be much more comfortable!

Fees

Our church organist currently charges $200 for the service.

There is a $75 fee paid to a wedding hostess who assists with the rehearsal and is responsible for the building on the day of the ceremony.

One additional fee is the cost of the PREPARE or ENRICH inventory (see above under Requirements), which is $35 and is paid directly to Life Innovations.

Pastor Young does not charge a fee per se, but rather receives an honorarium at the discretion of the couple; a suggested amount may be obtained from a bride’s magazine or from the church secretary.

Ceremony Details

We are generally flexible with service elements such as a unity candle or sand ceremony.

Specifics such as Scripture readings and vows will be discussed during premarital counseling. A sample wedding program is available to use as guidance for couples who wish to print their own wedding bulletins, or this can be done by the church secretary.

Music is arranged by meeting directly with the organist.
