ReUse FixerSpace

File:Vacuum plunge.jpgIn our FixerSpace, we give discarded electronics, appliances, computers, tools and other items a new life.

Our FixerSpace staff work with volunteers and employment trainees to test, clean, research and repair donated items so they can be re-used.  Refurbished items are then sold in ReUse thrift stores to support ReUse’s non-profit programs.

The results are: less waste, more local employment and more low-cost goods for area residents.

In 2012, the U.S. generated over 3.4 million tons of electronic waste – that’s 6.8 billion pounds!  Less than 30% of this material was recycled – the rest was trashed. Although e-waste represents only 2% of America's trash in landfills, it equals 70% of all toxic waste.

Donated items are constantly coming into our FixerSpace.  Volunteer help is greatly appreciated!  You do NOT need to have technical expertise.  There are lots of ways to help including organizing, testing, cleaning, researching and repairing.

FixerSpace  is located at ReUse’s Athens thrift store at 100 Columbus Road and operates 9-5 Monday-Friday.  If you want to help out, please contact Kyle Verge at kyle.verge@gmail.com OR click HERE
