Wandi was born in Liaoning, China. She received her B.S. in chemistry from Purdue University. While at Purdue she worked in Mingji Dai group on syntheses of Raman-tagged cholesterol probes. In the Fall of 2014, Wandi joined the Krische group where she is currently working on the development of new methodologies.
