Michael Holmes was born in Nelson, New Zealand. He obtained his BSc in chemistry in 2010 from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, NZ where he conducted research into cyclopropenium ionic liquids under the supervision of Prof. Owen Curnow. He then moved to Vancouver, Canada where he carried out his PhD with Prof. Robert Britton at Simon Fraser University. His research focused on the efficient synthesis of tetrahydrofuranol containing natural products. Michael joined the Krische group in the fall of 2016 where he is currently developing new methodologies for the construction of C-C bonds.
