Leyah was born in Florence, South Carolina but moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast at young age. She received her B. S. in Chemistry from University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016. While at UAB, Leyah worked under the direction of Pengfei Wang on the synthesis of photoreactive block copolymers. In fall of 2016, she started her graduate study in the Krische group at the University of Texas at Austin where she is interested in exploring new synthetic methodologies.
