The IMT is a trained all hazard response team. As such, team members  provide valuable assistance at terrorism, mass casualty, rescue, hostage, fire, natural disaster, transportation incidents and those involving hazardous materials. 

The role of the IMT is to assist agencies in fulfilling the responsibilities of the Command and General staff functions on an incident scene. The team is not there to replace the Incident Commander.

 The team members represent multiple disciplines including, Law Enforcement, Fire Service, EMS, Emergency Management, and Public Works.

IMT members are trained to handle a wide range of critical responsibilities including safety, operations, logistics, planning, finance, intelligence, liaison and public information functions.
