Regent Home Tuition Ireland

Regent Home Tuition Ireland is looking for qualified English language teachers to teach and host overseas professionals 1:1 in the home of the teacher in Cork or the district of Munster. You need a nice home, a single room for the student to live in and a suitable place for lessons. The guest is usually European, stays for no longer than one or two weeks and usually wants to develop their fluency. You provide breakfast, lunch and dinner and include the guest in your normal daily activities if they would like to join you - shopping, going for a coffee, seeing friends etc. Please complete our application form here: application form.

Regent is one of the most respected names in English Language Training in the UK, having offered teaching since 1964. Regent Home Tuition Ireland is established to enable students to learn English in Ireland in the home of their teacher.

Teaching English In Your Home
More and more students are discovering that they can make faster progress in their English when they live and study in their teacher's home. As well as taking 1:1 lessons designed to meet their needs, the student also benefits from being totally immersed in English. They receive full-board, participate in everyday family activities and share parts of your social life. To be a successful Home Tuition teacher you should be genuinely interested in welcoming students from different cultural backgrounds into your home. You will need to generate a warm, friendly rapport with the student and be skilled at including them into family life. In return Regent Home Tuition offers you the chance of working from home and earning an attractive salary. In addition, many of our Home Tuition teachers have become good friends with their students and get great pleasure in keeping contact and visiting them.

Most students stay for one or two weeks. The success of the course depends on your ability to devote time to the student and to engage them in conversation. To this end we match students’ and Home Tuition teachers’ interests and hobbies very carefully to make conversation easier and the stay as enjoyable as possible on both sides. The importance of conversation to the student means that we cannot book students with you if you work full or part-time while the student is with you.

Students choose 15, 20, 25 hours of lessons per week (1 lesson = 60 minutes). The first 3 lessons should be in the morning between 9.00 - 12.30 and any remaining lessons in the afternoon. The lessons should take place in a quiet area, away from disturbances. If you have young children, appropriate child care needs to be arranged during lesson times.

Our students come from all over the world and include mainly executives or professional people. Older students often prefer an adult family. No other foreign students should be accommodated at the same time as a student booked by Regent.

Course Materials, Course Design, Training and Academic Support
You will be supported by our Home Tuition Regional Director of Studies (RDoS) who works in Cork. The RDoS will supply you with course materials and the broad course design. You will receive academic support for each student. You will receive your course materials and be able to discuss course/welfare issues. The RDoS will then keep in contact with you and the student by phone.

Confirming Bookings
We will follow up a telephone booking by confirmation in writing with our terms and conditions. We ask the student to telephone you in advance to say hello and to discuss the course.

Accommodation is usually reserved from Sunday. We ask students to let you know the approximate time they will be arriving at your home. When we receive this information, our Home Tuition Regional Director of Studies will inform you. Please help your student on their first day to find the local amenities.

FULL-BOARD means breakfast, lunch and evening meal, every day. Students should have a good breakfast with perhaps fruit juice, cereal and toast or bread, with jam or marmalade and coffee or tea, and an occasional cooked breakfast. Many students are used to having cheese at breakfast. Lunch should be taken with the student, unless the student wants to go out. In this case, a packed lunch should be provided. Dinner should be taken with the student and your family.

Your student's bedroom should have a full-size single bed, dressing table or chest-of-drawers with mirror, wardrobe, table or desk with lamp where they can study. The room should be adequately heated. A student should not share a room, unless two students are placed with you on the 2:1 programme. Towels should be provided and bed-linen changed every week.

A front door key should be provided, but make sure your student returns it at the end of their stay.

We ask Home Tuition teachers to do reasonable amounts of their students' washing. Please let them know your arrangements for washing their clothes.

Baths and Showers
A daily bath or shower should be available. Tell your student about convenient times.

Many of our students come from warmer countries, so they feel the cold more than we do. If your central heating is switched off at night, please provide an extra blanket if needed.

Liability and Insurance
Regent is not able to accept liability for any damage caused by students staying with you, or for any injury to you or to the student. You must have reasonable insurance against fire, damage, theft and injury. You should check with your Insurance Company to make sure you have full cover. Liability for students' possessions is their own responsibility.

Income Tax
All teaching payments are subject to income tax, and we are obliged by law to disclose full details to the tax authorities if requested.

Doctor and Dentist
If your student is taken ill while staying with you, it may be necessary for you to make an appointment for them to see a doctor. They may have to pay for medical treatment unless it is an emergency.

The school pays you by transfer into your bank account or building society. Payments are made for teaching (taxable) and accommodation (non-taxable). For each student we will inform you of the payment dates in advance when we confirm the booking. Payments for teaching are made at the end of each month

Vetting Home Tuition Families
We take up references on all Home Tuition teachers. Referees are asked about your suitability to work with young people (if appropriate) and if they are aware of any impediment to your being employed in this type of role. In addition, police checks are carried out on all our Home Tuition families prior to being allowed to accept Under 18’s.

Proof of your qualifications is required (please attach a photocopy of your degree and ELT qualifications).

Seven days' notice should be given by the student if they wish to leave earlier than arranged with you. This also applies if you wish the student to leave earlier, but please liaise with our Home Tuition Regional Director of Studies. The Regional Home Tuition Director of Studies is available to help you with any queries you may have regarding your student. Do not hesitate to contact him/her.
