On May 29, 2009, RD Lina B. Espere paid courtesy calls to the local government officials of Camiguin Province to ask for their support to the VPA program of the Agency. In her visits, RD Espere said that the VPAs can do a big help to the community by amplifying the services of the local parole and probation office especially that as of now, there are only two personnel who are supervising the clients of the island province. She further said that volunteers are to be trained first before they can undertake the supervision of clients who come from the barangays where they, the volunteers, reside.
Accompanying RD Espere were Sr.PPO/OIC Lyra Linda W. Zia and PPO II Irwinn C. Ballentos, both of Camiguin Parole and Probation Office.
The courtesy calls proved to be fruitful in the sense that the local government officials pledged their assistance in recruiting potential VPAs in their districts. In Catarman, RD Espere was received by Mr. Jack Prima, Sr. Administrative Officer and Ms. Evangeline Avendanio, Municipal Budget Officer. The latter, who hinted that she is very much interested in becoming a VPA, encouraged OIC Wahiman to submit a budget proposal for her programs for the clients of Catarman. In Sagay, she talked with Mr. Nilo Cagas, CCRMO-Designate, who himself is familiar with probation work, and also assured RD Espere that he would recommend community residents to become VPAs. . The Honorable Mayor of Guinsiliban, Atty. Raul M. Llacuna, also welcomed the probation personnel warmly and said that he would help recruit potential VPAs. Mayor Alex R. Jajalla of Mahinog and the probation personnel had an animated talk and he also promised he would recruit VPAs in his municipality, adding that he would extend assistance to clients who are residents of Mahinog. The mayor of Mambajao could not be reached due to her pressing engagements.
VPA application forms were distributed to these local officials during the courtesy calls. OIC Zia will return in a week to follow-up the forms.
