Orchid spotted, June 2012.
Post date: Jun 27, 2012 2:36:31 PM
In early June, an orchid was spotted growing by the base of one of the London Plane trees in Redland Green Road. Unfortunately, no sooner had it been seen than it disappeared. Let's hope that next year more of these delightful plants will flower here again.
Many thanks to Lynne for passing on this news.
The orchid was either a Pyramidal or a Common Spotted Orchid. If you'd like to see where the orchard was, along with close-up views of a Pyramidal Orchid and a Common Spotted Orchid (which are very variable in appearance), click here. The close-up photographs were not taken on the Green, but near Collard Hill, Somerset.
