Issue 62: Metford Road Community Orchard hedge laying

Members of the community orchard located in the Metford Road allotments hired the expert and prize winning hedge layer Malcolm Dowling to lay a hedge bordering the orchard. The hedge, of mixed native species, was planted almost 20 years ago. It took two days to lay the 40 metre long hedge in the North Somerset style, and laying it will increase its longevity, allow better airflow and light to the orchard and greatly improve its value as a wildlife habitat.

The Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby made it possible to hire Malcolm and his apprentice Ollie Garner through a grant to the community orchard, made under their growing together campaign.
