Issue 62: John Cossins of Redland Court

A new book about John Cossins, the merchant who built and owned Redland Court has been written by Caroline Bateson, former head teacher of Redland High School for Girls. The school vacated the property in September 2017, when it merged with Red Maids School, after 133 years there.

John Cossins was a successful London merchant and retired to Bristol at the age of 50. Redland Court is built in what was then the new Palladin style, very fashionable in London. The Redland Court estate included Lovers Lane, which leads up to the grand front entrance to the Court.
