· solitary bees from the social bees

· bumblebee mimics from true bumblebees

· the sex and caste of bees

· identify the common 8

· common species from the very similar but rarer species.

The workshop will mainly be practical but include a brief talk on bumblebee enemies, sexual behaviour, colony behaviour, flower visiting, collecting and recording.

There will be an opportunity to pin out an insect for identification. If you have your own microscope and collection of bumblebees to be identified please bring them along, but this is not essential.

If the weather is good we may visit Brandon Hill between 4pm-5pm to catch and identify live bees.

If you are unable to take part in the April workshop, don't worry! There will be another workshop in June during National Insect week.
